Florida State baseball up to 6th in USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll

Florida State’s baseball team bumped up two spots in the latest USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll announced Monday.
Fresh off a series victory at Miami, the Seminoles moved from eighth to sixth. They are the highest ranked ACC team and are two spots behind rival Florida. If FSU can maintain its positioning or continue to climb during the final weeks of the season, it will have a chance to secure a top 8 national seeding in time for the NCAA tournament. Top 8 seeds automatically host Regionals and would host a Super Regional if they advance.
The Seminoles (33-11, 16-8 ACC) beat the Hurricanes on Friday by scoring the go-ahead run on a ninth-inning wild pitch. On Saturday, they shut out Miami’s big bats behind a strong effort from starter Hunter Scantling. Sunday spelled a different story, however, as they fell 5-1.
Right fielder James Ramsey has continued to lead the Seminoles offensively. With an opposite-field solo home run late in Sunday’s game, he extended his ACC-leading hitting streak to 22 games. He brings a team-leading .360 batting average into Tuesday’s non-conference game at Jacksonville.
This weekend, the Seminoles continue non-conference action when they host a good UCF team. As of last Monday, the Knights had an RPI of 26.
